Wes electrical rewiring a 4 bedroom house in clarkston glasgow, it has took us 4 days to get it ready to test, which is the part of the job that can be most enjoyble but it also tells you any mistakes that have been make or other wise so you can understand that this is an important part of the job.
firstly going to test the final ring circuit of the downstairs ring circuit, we have 10 sockets on this ring with no spurs off of it. Going to test 1. insulation resistence 2 earth loop impedence 3 continuity 4 polarity.
this test can take up to 40 min to complete and record.
i am then going to repeat this on the upstairs electrical ring circuit.
Once the testing is complete you can the turn the power back on sign the document and hand over the report and at this point this is when you are looking to get paid.

Beatroute Arts Glasgow
Beatroute arts is a community music center for the kids of barlonock Glasgow. Run by julie they provide music experiences to young people and is a very busy little venue. we have been providing electrical work for beatroute arts for the past few years.
Electrical testing is an important part of running a public building you have to make sure that the electrical system, power and light is safe for everyone to work and play in.
They have some fantastic stuff in here, a lot of it is too delicate to fully pat test like the computers and the electronic recording equipment. but i will do all the tests that i can without damaging the equipment.

GKP Post 2012
I just attended the NY investor summit, so here’s a brief summary of what JG said. Presentation seemed to be same as for LSE last week but some very interesting snippets. Apologies in advance as a lot of scribbles (feel free to post on iii if of interest as trying to sort my login out there), and usual disclosures about information and how it should be treated apply (this is a brief summary only)
- JG opened by saying this would be the ‘best story of the day’. He explained how the company had grown from almost $40m in value to nearly $4bn in a few years.
- He gave the current figures for oil in all blocks and said there is PLENTY of upside left. He said that he believes current figures (for Shaikan in particular) are conservative. He later mentioned on 2 separate occasions they are confident Shaikan is full to spill and a figure of 18bn barrels is likely.
- As heard before, they have tested all the good stuff and are now testing all the ‘bad stuff’ to see what is really there. He mentioned one part that was a pokey little area and which produced 5,000bpd
- SH-1 and SH-3 are hooked up for production, have expanded well test facilities. SH-4 is the best so far, they are still testing.
- Sheikh Adi they believe there is a lot more oil on the other side of the fault. SH-7 will be the last of the Shaikan appraisal wells. ALL reservoirs and intervals (in SH) have been full of oil and gas. No dry holes, not even in the intervals. They are looking at 300m (1,000ft of net pay which is huge amount).
- 122km pipeline to start this summer. $170mn costs, will finish mid 2013.
- After SH-6 TD, GKP has 30 days to submit development plan to KRG in July / August this year. The clock starts then (on the 30 year production front).
- He believes they have a 10 year plateau of producing between 400k and 600k bpd. Shaikan could be producing for 80 to 100 years so they will leave a lot of oil in the ground.
- **He says according to KRG website BIRs are to be sold to KNOC, the Koreans (note I believe he was referring specifically to Shaikan here, which is why I was surprised).
- Every piece of news on Shaikan good so far, not limited by water point to date. Testing on wells limited to 10,000bpd but more potential.
- cash flow to finance everything. Project insensitive to Capex / Opex issues.
- No security concerns. 5 years in Kurd, no incident. Erbil like a mini Dubai, boom town.
- Shaikan lots of directional drilling. 1mbpd AVAILABLE in Kirkuk to Ceyhan pipeline. They will have capacity for 400,000bpd but could ‘twin’ the pipeline to expand this.
- More on figures. BB – 5bn to 10bn expected, SA – 3bn to 6bn, SH 18bn, AB – MID 20s. (yes, big number). Said if they don’t get good price for AB share (process to start this week) then they would hang on as could be v profitable.
- DGA report would not be until SH-5 complete so few months away. Next report likely to be from ERC Equapoise(?).
- Still on course for FTSE main listing (would currently be number 95).
- Asked whether they plan to fully develop Shaikan or sell off: they are continuing with their full plan “BUT WHEN THEY WANT TO BUY US ( I understood meaning Shaikan), they’re going to buy us. Many majors.. [will be interested]“.
Please don’t take everything word for word as this is a broad summary. My impression is they are conituning to do all possible to prove up the oil, increase production and create more attractive assets. However, at some stage, a big player will in all probability take a piece(s) off their hands.

westend glasgow 2013
2013 certainly looks to be an exciting year for Glasgow, next year Glasgow itself hosts the commonwealth games, which in itself is goig to be massive for the city of Glasgow. Mean-while in the westend of Glasgow a small company called WES Electrical works away at keeping Glasgow electrically safe. Since the turn of the year WES Electrical has seen a massive influx of new customers ranging from commercial customers in the retail sector to new private home owners and landlords. This has been the best start to a year (January) in our 8 year history so something has defiantly changed sentiment towards getting work done and new contracts being issued.
Glasgow 2014 will be interested, the start of next year im sure we will see a rush of companies prepare for the games in many different ways. This is certainly good for the scottish econemy and i personally know of a few companies who have started apprenticeships on the back of contacts won. My hat goes off to these companies and it is difficult to keep busy enough to keep on employing new yound staff in order to train them up to enter a trade.
hopefully the need for electricians in the westend glasgow keep in the upward trend throughout this year.

Solar panels
Tasked with a mandate to source 50% of the energy required for its shore-based operations from renewable sources by 2020, the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) turned the construction of Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs) into another opportunity to advance on this goal. With excellent solar resources at Twentynine Palms, California, the USMC selected solar power for their Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and enlisted Baker Electric Solar to install a 1.5 MW solar system. However, there was one stipulation: solar panels couldn’t be installed on any BEQ rooftop.
Up to the challenge, Baker Electric Solar turned an amphitheater, parking lot, and parking garage into dual-purpose solar systems. Due to space constraints, SunPower high-efficiency solar panels were chosen because they were the only commercially available panels that could meet the military’s energy requirements. Completing an estimated six-month project in only two months, Baker Electric Solar’s ingenuity, attention to aesthetics, and overall installation quality earned the project SunPower’s prestigious Intelegant Award for Excellence as well as an award from the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and the Solar Energy Industries Association® (SEIA). With this award-winning solar solution, the USMC is one step closer to their energy goals and can look forward to saving $3.2 million over the next 25 years.
This is a quick look at companies in the Usa USing solar power but it will be more and more present in Glasgow over the coming years
PROJECT CHALLENGES DRIVE INNOVATION
Located in the Mojave Desert, the USMC base at Twentynine Palms was ideally located to turn sunlight into electricity. Consequently, solar power was included as part of the design of the BEQ-9 construction project, which featured three 4-story BEQs, a landmark projection tower, an outdoor amphitheater, and a parking garage. However, the opportunity brought with it the challenges of extreme heat and wind storms. In addition, the USMC’s request for proposal (RFP) included restrictions on where the solar panels could be placed. To address the extreme conditions and space restrictions, Baker Electric Solar created two work shifts using two different crews each day to maintain productivity in high heat, developed an attachment clip to better secure the panels against extreme winds, and turned the amphitheater and other buildings into dual-purpose structures by integrating solar panels into the existing design.
SUNPOWER OVERCOMES SPACE CONSTRAINTS
Advanced 3D modeling helped develop a design that successfully integrated the solar system with the available structures, but a regular-efficiency solar panel still couldn’t meet the RFP’s electricity production requirements. “The only way we were able to achieve the capacity that the military required was to use the highest-efficiency panel on the market. The SunPower modules were really the only way of getting it done,” said Baker Electric Solar’s Solar Project Development Engineer Quinn Laudenslager. By incorporating SunPower solar panels, Baker Electric Solar was able to design and install a system that not only met the base’s energy specifications, but will also save the base more than $3 million in electrical costs.
MARINE CORPS PROJECT WINS AWARDS
In two short months, Baker Electric Solar met all the RFP requirements and completed the BEQ-9 solar project. BES also integrated a monitoring system into the base’s existing building management system, enabling quick and easy review of the solar system’s performance. The innovation, aesthetics, and high quality of this USMC solar project have garnered several awards, including the 2011 SunPower Intelegant Award for Excellence and a 2012 Photovoltaic Project of Distinction Award conferred by SEPA and SEIA. The BEQ-9 project is also registered for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum, which highlights the overall environmental commitment of the USMC. While these accolades are great, the bottom line is that the Marine Corps base can look forward to substantial energy cost savings for the next 25 years and are another step closer to achieving critical renewable energy objectives.

Electric Cars 2013
Although electric cars are not really to do with being an electricians in the westend glasgow but i thought i would put some findings down for you to enjoy. With several new electric models due to be launched during 2013, and the Plug-in Car Grant still available, the next few years promise to be exciting ones for electric cars. Buying an electric car is now a real option as a number of major manufacturers launch high quality, fully electric models onto the UK market.
Who should buy an electric car?
There are three key issues that determine whether a battery electric car is right for you.
- Do you have access to off-street parking?
- Is your daily mileage under 100 miles?
- Are you looking to buy a new car?
First, you need to have access to a garage, drive or other off-street parking area to be able to recharge an electric car overnight, the most common form of recharging method. Recent research suggests that around 80% of UK car-owning households already have access to a garage or other off-street parking facility (<50% urban, 70% sub-urban, and >95% rural).
Unless proper provision is made with the permissions of your the local authority, it is not advisable to trail an electric cable across pavements or other public areas to connect a car parked on-street with your household electricity supply.
Second, your driving mileage needs to be limited to less than around 100 miles per day, preferably on a regular route that you know well. For example, regular commuting trips are well suited to electric cars – around two-thirds of commuting trips are less than 10 miles and, most significantly, they are routine journeys for which the driver knows what to expect with respect to distance, route, congestion, road conditions and parking.
Third, you need to be able to afford a new car – very few electric cars (as opposed to electric quadricycles) are yet available on the used car market. And, as is discussed later in the guide, electric cars are significantly more expensive than their conventional equivalents, a situation likely to remain the case for some time.
Recent trials have also made a useful observation regarding the way electric cars are used within multi-car owning households. While manufacturers initially thought that electric vehicles would be bought to replace a second or third car, research shows that once an electric car is purchased by a household, it tends to be preferred for all short local trips, with the other 'main' car only being used for longer journeys.
FAQ: I need a car for work and family and drive approx 10-12k miles p.a. Does it make more economic sense for me to buy a diesel, hybrid or electric car at the moment?
As a general rule, the cost differential scales with the level of electrification; from around a 10% premium for a hybrid (relatively small battery), 30%+ for a plug-in hybrid (assuming a 20 mile electric range), to 70% more for a pure battery electric car. On the plus side, fuel costs for EVs are significantly less (by around 80%), due to electricity not being taxed as a transport fuel. However, depreciation rates are high due to uncertainty of the battery life – overall expectwhole life costs to be higher for battery electrics.
For an BEV to be right for you, you need to have: (1) access to off-street parking for place to charge, (2) be looking to buy a car new, (3) be prepared to pay more for your car use, (4) be prepared to have a car with a 70-100 mile range between charges, and (5) be an early adopter who wants to have the latest gizmos – its going to get the neighbours talking for sure.
What models are available now?
Although electric vehicles have been available for decades, only recently have the major manufacturers invested in high quality electric models to meet the needs of twenty-first century. This has involved increasing driving range and reducing vehicle price. A new recharging infrastructure is also being rapidly developed across the UK.
While a number of specialist companies had already developed small electric city cars (which are actually legally classed as 'quadricycles') – including the Reva G-WIZ micro-car and the MEGA City – more recently, mainstream auto makers are now offering proper electric cars, with most of the major manufacturers likely to follow suit in the next two years in the westend glasgow.
With this accelerated development, the price of electric cars is also falling. Although they remain more expensive than conventional cars, some new electric models such as the Nissan LEAF are now priced at around £25,000, supported by the new Plug-in Car Grant worth up to £5,000 is available for the purchase of selected new electric vehicles in the UK. That said, a recent report by LowCVP clearly shows that (on average) electric cars will continue to have higher whole life costs at least until 2030 – see also EV costs.
The vehicles that qualify for the Plug-in Car Grant now include at least nine electric cars – with more to become eligible during 2013. Both private car buyers and fleets can receive the Grant, which is administered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) – no applications forms are required as the dealership completes all the necessary paperwork on the buyer's behalf and the grant is automatically deducted from the vehicle price at the point of purchase.

FAQ: If I buy a new electric car, how many years will I get out of my batteries before they need to be replaced? And how much will they cost to replace?
This is the question EV manufacturers would really like to know with a higher confidence level. It depends... on how you treat your electric car, the climate and terrain where the car is used, what type of recharging system is used and the vehicle's battery technology. In general, the industry is betting on at least 7 years battery life from new - until they can only retain around 80% of their original capacity. So they should still be usable, but the vehicle's range would be lower by 20%. In reality, some packs are going to last longer and some will give up the ghost well before. Replacement cost?
