This is the last blog of 2013 from WES Electrical, its been a fantastic year always learning year on year on how to deal with business, new situations that can arise, new customer we meet and new business relationships in Glasgow/ clarkston / giffnock / newton mearns that we have made.

Business is fantastic and hopfully going into 2013 we maintain the standard going forward. As per every start of a new year we work out an advertising budget going forward this year we are going to focus on paisley the westend of glasgow, and bearsden. with a busdget of around 2000£ p/m we aim to be pretty busy.
As our goal is to take on a new electrician by february and a new apprentice for the start of june.

over the festive period we have been busy with call to attend mostly domestic clients but it is difficult to get materials at this time of year but, usually with the stock we have in our vans and our office in the westend of glasgow we usually get the job done.

Coming to the end of 2012 after a long year, and reflecting on how much things can change in business in a year, first off you would not believe a year ago how much of an importance blogging is and website 2.0 maintenance can have an effect on website traffic. But throughout this year i have learned more and more in regards to this and aim to put it all to goo use for W.E.S Electrical in 2013. Still working through the holidays but was in the westend Glasgow earlier today before a journey to Bearsden Glasgow. First job was to price up a job for the new year and second job was a shower installation in Bearsden. The shower install was the only real work i had on today as i dont usually count quoting for jobs as work. Firstly i have to inspect the shower to see if it was fixible or not, after removing the cover i noticed that the terminal cables on the shower side of the installation and they were burned.Futher testing with my electrical meter tells me that the element has shorted and most likely has caused the electrial burning. next i have to isolate the water,now finding the water isolation switch can be challenging , and this one certainly was, it was located somwhere in the attic, but noone in the house know which one, so up i went into the dark attic with my torch, to follow the pipe work. Luckly the plumber who installed the pipe was sensible and installed a isolation valve on it. so it turned out to be not to bad to find after climbing over some things in the attic. Next it was off to bnq to get a triton shower, and then back to fit the shower. the cable at the original installation was a 6mm2 twin and earth which limits me to what wattage of shower i can install, i chose to install the 8.5kw option. the triton shower goes on with no real issues and after connecting the pipe and the cable i turn the power and the water back on and the shower is now fully operational. Hyndland road Rewire beofre xmas

hi there > this will be the last blog for a few days as we took on a last minute rewire in hyndland road in the westend of glasgow. 6 bedroom house - fully rewired 4 socket points per room and kitchen install, this is goiny be a crazy week but wee aim to have this done 5 days tops so looks like we will be working over the weekend....need to get christmas shopping aswell. we have a team of 3 electricians and one laborer on site just to get it moving rather swiftly, this job is for a client who has used us many times before for renovation projects and asked us to take on this rewire project. cable we will use 1.5mm t+e 2 core and 3 core and earth 2.5mm t+e 2 core and earth 4mm t+e 2 core and earth 6mm t+e 2 core and earth 10mm t+ 2 core and earth this client found us straight from an internet search for 'electricians westend glasgow' which is down to the hard seo work i do day in day out over the past 4 years aswell as my day job, i feel to be competitive you need to do seo, ideally if i had a bigger turnover i would employ someone to work in my office at seo and maby look to that next year. havr a great xmas www.weselectrical.co.uk

We have recently moved from the westend Glasgow to southside Glasgow - Clarkston, this is my 3rd website as i have moved over the years and look to keep my work as locally as i can. these are my top tips for electrical safety in the home

1. DON'T plug a bunch of stuff into one outlet or extension cord. It could damage the electrical system in your house or even cause a fire. 2. Make sure all electric cords are tucked away, neat and tidy. Pets might chew on electrical cords, and people might trip and fall. 3. DON'T ever climb the fence around an electrical substation. If a ball or pet gets inside the fence, ask a grown-up to call the electric company - they'll come and get it out for you. 4. DON'T yank an electrical cord from the wall. Pulling on a cord can damage the appliance, the plug or the outlet. 5. Fly your kite far away from power lines or substations. The kite and the string may conduct electricity - sending it right through you to the ground. 6. Ask a grown-up for help when you need to use something that uses electricity. 7. DO look up and look out for power lines before you climb a tree. The electricity can go right through the tree branch - and right through you! 8. Have a grown-up put safety caps on all unused electrical outlets. Covering outlets will also help save energy by stopping cold drafts. 9. Remind your mom or dad to watch out for power lines when they're using a ladder, chainsaw or other outdoor equipment. 10. Keep electrical stuff far away from water. Most electrical accidents around the house happen when people use electricity near water. Always consult a qualified electrician before doing any work

First week of December!

will be the first week of Decemeber , some people will say the first week of christmas, but i look at it as the first week of chaos in the electrical contracting world. we have such a busy week coming up and most of it is last minute installations for customers getting ready for the festive season. this week we have a full rewire to complete in Paisley, we have testing of a sport center in allander bearsden, i have several meeting to attend in regards to testing this week which usually end up in immediate work, plus we have several other little jobs like shower installations and a few wall mounted tv installations to contend with. i do love being busy as it mean we are making money but sometimes especially when its cold you dont really want to do much. i will up date this during the week and let you know how our new electrician gets on we have him working around the westend in Glasgow, to give him an easy start since hes from anniesland

Glasgow Commonwealth games - Electrical contracting As the Glasgow Commonwealth games fast approaches the city, construction has been booming in the east end of Glasgow. we have seen new building arise out of nowhere on land that has been previously derelict. W.e.s Electrical is on t=of the leading electrical contractors in Glasgow, they said they have seen there business grow 10 fold in the past 2 years mainly in the glasgow area for the build up to the games. Currently W.e.s Electrical are working in conjunction with Glasgow city council to build an athletes village close to parkhead and the new sir chris hoy vellodrome, which will accomodate the athletes every need for the duration of the commonwealth games. Afterwhich the flats will then be turned into residential flats to use for Glasgow city council. Exciting times ahead Director Iain Jamieson said " we are looking to employ another 6-8 electricians over the next 3 months just to keep up the demands of the ongoing projects, we have also tendered for various other projects in Glasgow and in preparation the wider community at large is have work done, so it is a rather busy time and im glad of it" The games have brought a much needed boost to Glasgows econemy as everywhere else at the moment times are hard even the staple of the glasgow shipbuilders BAE Systems is under threat at the moment so any boost for the econemy is welcomed with open arms.

Monday afternoon went really well for us, as i personally secured a full rewire of 4 bedroom house in the westend glasgow, which is to start next monday. really happy with this one as there were several other electrical companys in for this one, we managed to get the job due to our professionalism, customer relations and price. thats one thing that can be hard when quoting for job is finding our where to go in with your price as there will be other electrical companys quoting for the same job. best thing to do is be as professional as you can be, get your time keeping right and give the clients as much information as possible.this way you are covering all based and therefore should be chosen by your customer, remember its not always down to price.i have won jobs even though i was was not the cheapest electrical contractor quoting. its all about attitude believe you can and you will. you need to learn from your mistakes and not to repeat them or you run the risk of loosing all the jobs you go for. as Albert Einstein said "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" he did speak from a theoretical physicist point of view but it is still releent in life and is still relevent in the electrical contracting industry.

The power required by any appliance is measured in Watts. the formula for working out the correct cable and fuse is; Watts divided by Volts equals Amps Electricity flows along the live wire, feeding whatever is required and then returns along the neutral wire to its local transformer. The flow can be stopped by the insertion of a switch, which for all practical DIY purposes is placed in the live wire. Switches, most often, will be linked from your ceiling rose through a separate cable, even though one of the wires in this cable is black it is still live. Electricity will always find the shortest or easiest route and you may represent it, so be careful Cables Fixed wiring is done in cable. This consists of individual conductors (wires) sheathed separately, by insulation to prevent leakage. The earth or "ground" wire is normally bare. The wires are then jointly covered by the outer sheath. The wires are colour coded, red for live, black for neutral and green/yellow striped for earth, where this is covered. Modern cables are sheathed with PVC which has an indefinite life, older cables were rubber with about 20/30 years life. If your home has these cables do not attempt electrical extensions with them. When installed, bare earth wires should be covered with an "earth sleeve" which can be bought in all sizes at an electrical

store or most diy stores. 1.5mm is most common in lighting circuits. When installed it must not exceed 110m in length and carries a fuse rating of 5amps. (6 amps if used in conjunction with a miniature circuit breaker). It is acceptable to run 1200 Watts on this cable, the equivalent of 12 x 100 Watt bulbs, but lighting circuits are normally run independently on each floor of your house. 2.5mm (as above but larger) is usually used for the installation of power sockets on a ring main. The circuit uses a 30 amp fuse at the consumer unit (32 with a MCB). Cable length must not exceed 60m or 50m with an MCB. Three core and earth is used to interconnect switches with more than one operation: Flex, is simply flexible cable and is used for connecting appliances. The colour coding is different using brown for live, blue for neutral and green/yellow stripes for earth. There are many more cables for connecting cookers etc, but these are generally run directly from the consumer unit and require a professional electrician for their installation. For more information on these and any other cables please go to appointments and ask the diy doctor. Fuses Fuses are placed into a circuit as a deliberate weak point. If anything goes wrong within your circuit, the fuse will "blow" first. With the modern RCD boxes, the trip switch will go. 

BUT BEFORE YOU PUSH IT BACK ON, LOCATE THE REASON WHY IT TRIPPED.

 Most of the time it is because the circuit has been overloaded or there is an earth fault. If you are in doubt contact an electrician. Ceiling Rose We have included ceiling roses in this section because it is the most misunderstood fitting of all. Many people think they can take the old one off, do not mark the wires, and connect a new fitting, black to black, red to red. It is not that easy, because in the majority of cases your light switch will be wired to the rose, and in that case, at least one of the black wires will be live. today was another busy day in the wes electrical world, most of the day was spent the southside glasgow, in clarkston Glasgow. we have a rewire in a three bedroom house to be completed buy next thursday, but as of today we are well ahead of schedule and im looking foard to telling my customer that we should be finished up on monday. we basically have upstairs ring and lighting circuits to install and wire, and then put all face plates on including sockets and light switches. the main day will be on sunday when i will be connecting up the consumer unit, 10 way double rcd split board, and the testing also begins on sunday so looks like it will be a late one and maby look up some takeways in the Clarkston area. il update 2moro on how are getting on and hopfully no problems to report. www.wesuk.co.uk
